DESCRIPTION
The good eighty mostly handwritten, previously unpublished letters of C.G. Jung to the artist and analysand Hedy Wyss are a unique example of Jung’s buoyant and spirited mind. They are full of allusions to philosophy and literature from antiquity to the present, above all to alchemy, some of which will be discussed in this seminar. Here we encounter entirely new, hitherto unknown sides of C.G. Jung, his love for life but also his deep suffering. “Some insights can be quite life-threatening”, he once wrote to Hedy Wyss. And indeed, as we shall see, some of his insights had almost cost him his life.
Andreas Schweizer, Ph.D., is a practicing Jungian analyst in Zürich. He studied theology and comparative religion in Zürich as well as Egyptology in Basel. He has been a training analyst since 1986, first at the C.G. Jung Institute in Küsnacht and currently with ISAP-Zurich. He was for sixteen years President of the Psychology Club, founded in 1916 by C.G. Jung. He has published numerous essays and books, including The Sungod’s Journey through the Netherworld (Cornell UniversityPress, 2010) and C.G. Jung – Letters to Hedy Wyss 1936–1956 (DaimonPublisher, 2023).
