SUBJECTS COVERED

Experiencing the Esoteric: Jung’s weekend retreats at Upper Cranwell Farm near Waddesdon, Buckinghamshire, June-July 1919

DESCRIPTION

When Jung came to London in 1919, in addition giving three public lectures and a seminar on the dreams of a shell-shocked patient, he also participated in five weekend retreats held at a cottage in Upper Cranwell Farm in Buckinghamshire. Here he was able to interact informally with his intimate circle of London analysts, teaching them active imagination, how to contact the tree spirits in the surrounding orchards, and sharing the fruits from his experiences with the unconscious over the past six years. This seminar will focus on the material from the Cranwell weekend seminars, which includes Jung’s esoteric talks, diagrams and the art works he and the participants created there, which enabled them to experience directly the esoteric aspects his current work.
