DESCRIPTION
It is said that the Jungian journey is a mystical journey. According to the ancient Christian view self-knowledge is the path to knowledge of God. The presenter will explore some aspects of Jung’s journey of self-realisation beginning with his early experience of religion and how it awakened in him a longing for a direct inner knowing and experience of the ‘transcendent’. Jung’s painting of maṇḍalas in a time of profound personal crisis led him to knowledge of a sacred centre in the psyche that was later confirmed in his numinous Liverpool dream. The speaker will demonstrate how this realisation and some key theories that developed from it connects Jung to the mystic wisdom of ancient Indian and Meister Eckhart’s mysticism of the Ground.
Linda Margaret Teer is a graduate of the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, where she studied Anthropology and Comparative Religion, and obtained an MA in Indian Philosophy. She is a graduate of the Guild of Analytical Psychologists, a member of the IAAP, and has a private practice based in South West London where she lives. Her main interests are the interspiritual dialogue between Advaita Vedanta and Catholic Christianity, and the interface between Classical Jungian psychology and the various mystical and philosophical traditions. She has given several talks to various groups including the St. Ephrem Ecumenical Research Institute, The Guild of Pastoral Psychology, The Jung Society of Australia and The Meditatio Centre.
